Kim Dotcom, MegaUpload founder |
However, in the middle of the Justice Department's strong desire to bring Dotcom to the U.S., the MegaUpload manager revealed something quite surprising. Dotcom claimed, there are many top U.S. officials who have MegaUpload account and enjoy MegaUpload service as well.
"Guess what, we found a large number of U.S. officials' accounts, including those in the Department of Justice and the Senate," said Dotcom to TorrentFreak, Monday (03/12/2012).
Currently, Dotcom is negotiating with the Department of Justice to give an opportunity for MegaUpload users to retrieve their data stored in the MegaUpload server. "We are negotiating with the Department of Justice to allow all Mega users to retrieve their data," said Dotcom.
Dotcom was arrested and detained on 20 January, on charges of piracy of music, movies and other copyrighted content.
On February 22, Dotcom was granted bail and has been released to home detention status in New Zealand, with some conditions that he is not allowed to have internet access, and not allowed to travel more than 80km from the property, except for medical emergencies.
