BlackBerry Declining Trend in Canada

BlackBerry's popularity in Canada starts fading. For the first time, iPhone shipments exceeded the shipments of BlackBerry in Canada. This is quite disappointing for RIM (Research In Motion), considering they have been dominating the smartphone market in its homeland for a long time. A study said: Canadian residents only buy one iPhone for every 5 BlackBerry that they buy, in 2008.

A data released by IDC and Bloomberg, March 23, 2012, revealed that Apple shipped 2.85 million units of iPhone to Canada in the last quarter of 2011. While RIM only 2.08 million BlackBerry units.

RIM sales in Canada fell 45% in the third quarter of 2011, compared to the same period in the previous year. BlackBerry's market share also continues undermined by the iPhone and Android in the United States.

Nevertheless, according to Bloomberg, BlackBerry still sells more than the iPhone in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

To increase sales and compete with the iPhone and Android, RIM is preparing BlackBerry 10 OS, to be released in late 2012.

Samsung Galaxy III Leaks Again

Samsung Galaxy S III is one of the most anticipated gadgets this year. Leaked image of the Galaxy III seemed to come from Weber Shandwick, a Public Relation company known as Samsung's partner in several countries. Different sources consider this leak more credible than the previous ones. No phone specification on the image, but the phone looks really sexy. See for yourselves:

The phone design looks thinner than its older brother Galaxy S II. Physical home button is located below the screen. Two buttons the right side would be the power button and the camera button.

Galaxy S III is rumored to get launched on May 22 in London, England.

Sony: Nokia 41MP Camera Technology is Obsolete

Nokia 808 PureView is a hot subject of conversation related its monstrous 41-megapixel camera resolution. But according to Sony, the Nokia 808 PureView's camera technology is not something new, aka obsolete.

Not just Sony, previously, Olympus and Nikon also said similar thing, and they feel confident that such technology will not cause too much trouble for their camera business.

Sony claimed that they already have developed the same pixel magnification technology about a year ago. Sony concluded that the application of such technology on a phone is not worth doing.

"It's quite clear it's a development announcement more than a retailable proposition, the technology is not new, it's only what our cameras have done for about a year now." said Paul Genge, Sony UK Category Development Manager.

Paul also admited Nokia make a breakthrough by incorporating these technologies in mobile devices, although he kept insist that  now is not the right time to release a phone with such a monstrous camera. "But in the mobile sector, it is a breakthrough. So I can understand why the handset is getting so much attention... It is still only a technological announcement, it's not a plausible retail solution yet." He added.

Magical "Floating Touch" and Handy SmartTags on Sony Xperia Sola

Sony has introduced the new Xperia Sola recently. The new smartphone features a magical "foating touch", allowing web browsing without actually touching the screen. You can simply hover your finger above the screen to act as cursor, highlight your desired link, then tap to open. Sony's floating touch technology will provide an exciting new experience

The Xperia Sola has a 3.7 inch Reality Display screen with Mobile technology BRAVIA technology. It has a 1 GHz dual core processor and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, upgradable to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in the middle of this year.

Like the Xperia S and Xpera P, Sony also installed NFC technology on the Xperia Sola. Two NFC Xperia SmartTags will be included inside the box. By tapping the XPERIA Sola to a SmartTag, a pre-configured profile will appear on your phone. Each SmartTag can be personalized with up to 10 commands. For instance, one SmartTag can be placed in the living room to turn on WiFi and launch Google News and weather applications. And the other one can be placed in the bedroom, to activate the alarm and turn the phone into silent mode. NFC technology also allows user to enjoy connectivity with other NFC smartphones. Exchanging applications can be done easily by simply attaching the phones together.

As for entertainment function, Xperia Sola is equipped with xLOUD and 3D surround sound audio technology for music listening. There is also direct access to the Sony Entertainment Network with the pre-installed applications; Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited. But unfortunately, the service is available only in certain countries.

Sola Xperia will be available in black, white, and red body, and scheduled to arrive on the market worldwide by the second quarter of this year.
